Approach and works on display
Tyra Maria Trono’s practice explores the formation of one’s perception within the process of cultural identification. It encompasses the notion of her cultural heritage of herself being filipinx. And how, within this formation, their position within the diasporic community redirects the path of this process.
Many of their projects are centered on the Côte-des-Neiges area. Since the early 1960s, the district of Côte-des-neiges has been primarily imagined as an “immigrant community.” Their parents immigrated to Canada in the late 1980s. They settled in the Darlington district of Côte-des-neiges because of the active Filipino community that existed at the time. The majority of their memories are from their time there.
