Biography
Born in Paraguay, raised in Brazil and now residing in Montreal, Riesbri is in her second year of a bachelor’s degree in sculpture at Concordia University. Her practice combines wood and metalwork, ceramics, painting and design, creating unique dialogues between abstract and formal elements. Although sculpture is her main interest, it also influences other artistic practices at Riesbri, such as painting.
Approach and works on display
Riesbri is interested in three-dimensionality, the space it takes up and how our bodies respond to sculpture. The viewer seeing the object as another body with which they can interact in the occupied space, the relationship between the sculpture and the human becomes quite peculiar. Riesbri’s artistic practice is driven by the theme of the human condition, then fueled by technology, process and experimentation. The artist finds herself playing with the notions of utility and futility by creating objects that have a rebellious aura. The events of her personal life and mixed background are also important stimuli for her creativity, while her work tends to be autobiographical.
